Debt Settlements

Credit Card Debt? – Debt Settlements Can Help You

Eliminating credit card debt is easy with the help of debt settlements. You see, getting out of debt is definitely the top priority for most people. But if it were as easy as just paying it off, there wouldn’t be a lot companies that will be dedicated to helping people who are in debt. To get a head start on things, there are a few steps that you can take.

Step one: determine the amount of damage involved

Before you can start eliminating your credit card debt, you must know how much you actually owe. A good start would be to gather all your statement of accounts from your credit cards and then sit down with a blank piece of paper. Write down the name of each card and the last four digits of the account that you want to pay off. Match the statements with the cards and take note of the balances, interest rates and the minimum payment. Also make a note of the due dates for the payment of each bill. The numbers may seem unbelievable, but this is the truth that you must face. You didn’t accumulate the debt in one day, so you’re not going to eliminate it in one day either. This is where a debt settlement affiliate program specialist comes in to help in your planning.

Step two: Device a plan

Take another blank sheet of paper and sort the accounts in terms of the balances. Make it in the order of lowest balance to the highest. If you have more than one card or for whatever reason that the accounts won’t fit, use another sheet to record the interest rates. This is a course of action that is normally advised by a debt settlement affiliate program specialist. If you do your research there are two different principles when dealing with the elimination of credit card debt.

The first is that you should pay off the card with the highest interest rate first while continuing to make monthly payments on the others. This will save you some money in the long run as you will be paying less money in interest to the credit card company with the high rates. The second philosophy is to pay the monthly payments for all your credit cards and then use any remaining cash to pay the card off with the lowest balance. Once that card is zeroed out, you can increase the payments made to the other cards.

Step three: maintain your consistency

Most people fail at this. Unless it is in a real emergency, DO NOT use your credit cards. New clothes and a lunch out do not qualify as an emergency, so avoid using your card for these instances. You see, most debt settlements will say that if you don’t stop spending on useless things, you will be back where you started.
